Cortality: see why visitors do not buy, then fix it

Contentsquare now includes Hotjar and spans a free plan up to enterprise contracts. Here's what to use instead, depending on why you're leaving.

Contentsquare is a big platform. Hotjar is now part of it, and its plans run from a free tier to Pro and Enterprise contracts sold through a call (pricing). People look for alternatives for different reasons: sampled replays on the free plan, hard monthly session caps, the jump to sales-led pricing, or simply wanting something smaller. Below are 6 alternatives, grouped by the reason you're leaving.

Last updated: October 27, 2026. Prices were checked on each vendor's own pricing page that day. Prices change often, so confirm before you buy.

Disclosure: We make Cortality, one of the products on this list. We've tried to be fair, and where another tool is the better choice, we say so.

First, what Contentsquare costs today

So you know what you're comparing against (Contentsquare pricing, checked October 27, 2026):

  • Free: $0, up to 200k sessions a month, 1 month of data access, 1 project, replays captured on 5% of sessions (max 10k), basic surveys.
  • Growth: $49/month paid monthly or $39/month paid yearly, 13 months of data, 3 projects, journey analysis, zone-based heatmaps and Sense AI chat. Every new account starts with a 15-day Growth trial that doesn't ask for payment details.
  • Pro and Enterprise: on the Experience Platform, priced through a call.
  • Limits: on Free and Growth, once you hit your session limit, "you won't get any new heatmap or funnel data until next month's reset date."

If Free or Growth already covers you, you may not need to switch at all. (If you came here looking for Hotjar: Hotjar sign-ups are closed, and new users go to Contentsquare Free, per Contentsquare.)

TL;DR

  • Best free alternative: Microsoft Clarity. Free forever, with no traffic limits, recordings and heatmaps (Clarity FAQ).
  • Enterprise like-for-like: Quantum Metric or Glassbox. Both are sales-led, and Glassbox is built for regulated industries.
  • Smaller paid tool with published prices: Mouseflow.
  • Product and engineering teams: PostHog or FullStory. Both have permanent free plans.
  • If you want a ranked list of what to fix instead of more dashboards: Cortality. It measures how real visitors use every part of a page, ranks the fixes, and re-measures each one. It's from $99/month, and the first week is free, with your first report before you pay.

The alternatives, one by one

1. Microsoft Clarity: best free alternative

Best for: teams leaving Contentsquare Free because of sampled replays or session caps.

Clarity is "a free service forever" with no traffic limits and no paid upgrade (Clarity FAQ). Microsoft says it doesn't sample traffic, and it records up to 100,000 sessions per project per day. Recordings are kept 30 days and heatmaps up to 9 months.

Watch out for: surveys aren't listed in the FAQ, and recordings are kept only 30 days. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland must consent; without it, sessions fragment and full replays aren't available.

2. Quantum Metric: enterprise, real-time

Best for: large digital teams that want issues detected and sized automatically.

Quantum Metric doesn't publish prices: "We create custom plans for your scale and specific needs," based on things like your number of digital properties and session volume. It also says it "will not stop collecting data or making it available just because you went over your session limit" (pricing plans).

Watch out for: it's sold through sales as an enterprise agreement, so it's not a fit for small sites.

3. Glassbox: for regulated industries

Best for: banks, insurers and others who need sessions captured for compliance.

Glassbox's plans page shows three packages with 2M to 3M monthly sessions included and session replay on 10% to 100% of sessions, and says pricing depends on the package, the data retention period and session volume (plans). Its AWS Marketplace listing shows $50,000 for 12 months on Basic (up to 50K sessions a month, 10 seat users) and $75,000 on Standard (up to 100K sessions a month, 15 seat users) (AWS Marketplace).

Watch out for: 12-month contracts at enterprise prices.

4. FullStory: product analytics depth

Best for: product and engineering teams.

FullStory has a permanent free plan, Fullstory Free, with 30,000 sessions a month and 12 months of data retention for up to 10 users, and it doesn't ask for a credit card (pricing). Business, Advanced and Enterprise are priced on request.

5. PostHog: the developer's all-in-one

Best for: developer-led SaaS teams.

PostHog's free allowance renews every month: 1M analytics events and 5K session recordings, and you only add a card if you need more. Pay-as-you-go charges only above those limits, with billing limits you set yourself (pricing). Recordings are kept 1 month on the free plan and 90 days on pay-as-you-go.

6. Mouseflow: published prices, friction detection

Best for: small sites that want a paid tool without a sales call.

Mouseflow has a Free plan (500 sessions a month) and paid plans at 39, 149 and 399 a month paid monthly (25, 109 and 319 a month paid yearly) for 5,000, 25,000 and 100,000 sessions, plus a custom tier (pricing). Its 14-day trial doesn't ask for a credit card. Its page data lists these prices in euros, so check the currency shown for your region.

Watch out for: when you run out of sessions, "all tracking will stop until your next refill date" unless you request a refill or upgrade.

7. Cortality: ranked fixes instead of more dashboards

Best for: lead-gen sites, online stores and SaaS that want to know what to change, especially sites that can't run A/B tests to significance.

Cortality is not a heatmap, and it isn't a recording suite. One tag measures how real visitors use every part of your page: what they notice, where they stop and what they skip, for every headline, image, button and form field. You get a Fix List in order of impact. Each finding has four lines: what was measured, why it costs you, the exact change, and how it'll be proven. When you ship a fix, Cortality re-measures and gives a plain verdict: Improved, Worse, No change, or Not enough data yet.

  • Example finding: "Only 1 in 14 visitors noticed the headline above this client's contact form."
  • Example result: form reach went from 26% to 56% in one week. That's one client's measured result, and results vary (see a real finding).
  • Privacy: no cookies, no keystrokes and no form values are collected (Trust Center).
  • Pricing: Starter $99/month (2,500 visitors, 1 page), Growth $249/month (10,000 visitors, 3 pages, session viewer), Scale $499/month (25,000 visitors, 5 pages), Enterprise custom. Month to month, with no contract (pricing).
  • Free first week: Start your free week and get your first report before any charge. You save a card at sign-up, and nothing is charged until 3 days after your first report, which comes once your page has 100 visitors. Cancel before then and you pay nothing. If there's no report by day 30, you're never charged. Any charge can be refunded within 14 days (refunds).

Not sure yet? Scan your page free. It takes about a minute, with no install needed. The free scan is a prediction of where visitors look, made by our attention model, plus an estimate of what fixing it is worth. The paid product measures real visitors.

Where Cortality fits (and where it doesn't)

It fits if you're paying for a big platform mainly to answer "what should we change on this page?", and you'd rather get a ranked answer than build it from replays and zone maps. It also fits sites too small to A/B test, because each fix gets a before-and-after verdict, including "Not enough data yet" when the evidence is thin.

It doesn't fit if you need what Contentsquare does beyond that: full-site replay, error and performance monitoring, surveys, product analytics or enterprise data connectors. Cortality isn't a replacement for those. Many teams keep a free recording tool like Clarity, and Cortality works alongside it for the fixes.

How to choose

  • "I want free, with no traffic limits." → Microsoft Clarity.
  • "We're an enterprise and want real-time issue detection." → Quantum Metric.
  • "We're a bank or insurer and need every session." → Glassbox.
  • "We're a product or engineering team." → PostHog or FullStory.
  • "I want published prices and a smaller tool." → Mouseflow.
  • "Tell me what to fix on this page and prove it worked." → Cortality, alongside Clarity if you like.
