The Best AI Tools for Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) in 2026

Cortality: see why visitors do not buy, then fix it

For most sites, the best AI tools for conversion rate optimization (CRO) are a free stack of Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity, plus one tool that tells you what to change first. Add an A/B testing platform such as VWO or Optimizely only once you have the traffic to run tests to a clear result.

Quick answers

What's the best free AI tool for CRO?

Microsoft Clarity. It's "a free service forever" with no traffic limits, and it includes Copilot heatmap insights and chat on top of recordings and heatmaps.

What if I used to use Hotjar?

Hotjar is now part of Contentsquare, and "it's no longer possible to create a new account on Hotjar" (Contentsquare). New users sign up for Contentsquare's free plan.

Which tool tells me what to change?

Analytics and recordings show what happened, and you work out the fix. Cortality measures how real visitors use every element of the page and gives you a ranked Fix List with the exact change and a re-measure. It works alongside GA4 and Clarity. Start your free week.

1. Microsoft Clarity: the best free starting point

What it does well. Session recordings, click and scroll heatmaps, and frustration signals such as rage clicks and dead clicks. Microsoft says there are no traffic limits, and Clarity records up to 100,000 sessions per project per day. Copilot can summarize a page's heatmaps and answer questions about your dashboard (Clarity FAQ).

Pricing. Free forever. Microsoft says you're never compelled to upgrade to a paid version.

Keep in mind. Recordings are kept for 30 days, and heatmaps for up to 9 months. Microsoft also says Copilot's takeaways "shouldn't be treated as expert recommendations", so treat them as a starting point.

Who it's for. Almost every site. If you're starting CRO with no budget, install Clarity first.

2. Contentsquare, Hotjar's new home: recordings plus surveys

What it does well. Contentsquare now includes what Hotjar was known for: heatmaps, recordings and surveys, plus funnels and error monitoring. The Growth plan adds zone-based heatmaps, journey analysis, Sense AI chat, and AI summaries of replays and heatmaps (pricing).

Pricing. Free covers up to 200k sessions a month, with 1 month of data access. Growth is $49 a month paid monthly or $39 a month paid yearly, with 13 months of data. Voice of Customer surveys start at $79 a month, with a free tier of 100 responses a month. New accounts start with a 15-day trial of Growth.

Keep in mind. Hotjar sign-ups are closed, so a new user is choosing Contentsquare (source). For the full breakdown, see Microsoft Clarity vs Hotjar.

Who it's for. Teams that want recordings and on-site surveys in one product, and longer data history than Clarity keeps for recordings.

3. Google Analytics 4: where visitors drop out

What it does well. Shows which traffic sources, pages and funnel steps lose people, so you know where to look before you open a recording. Google describes its machine-learning insights as a way to anticipate future customer actions (Google).

Pricing. Free of charge.

Who it's for. Everyone. GA4 tells you where the problem is; the other tools help with why.

4. VWO: A/B testing when you have the traffic

What it does well. A/B, split URL and multivariate testing with a visual editor, plus multi-arm bandit and rollout campaigns on its Growth plan. VWO is now part of the Wingify platform, and its Wingz AI core is included with paid products (pricing).

Pricing. The pricing page lists Growth, Pro and Enterprise plans for web experimentation, each priced through a demo. A free trial is offered.

Who it's for. Sites with enough traffic for tests to reach a clear result.

5. Optimizely: testing and personalization at scale

What it does well. A/B, multi-page, feature and server-side testing, real-time personalization, and its own Stats Engine (pricing).

Pricing. Quote-based. Optimizely puts together a personalized quote.

Who it's for. Larger teams running a testing program across many pages or products.

6. Cortality: which element to fix first, and proof it worked

What it does well. One small tag measures how real visitors use every element of the page: what they see, what they skip, and where they scroll, tap and stop. You get a ranked Fix List. Each finding shows what we measured, why it costs you, the exact change to make, and a re-measure that shows whether it worked, with a verdict of Improved, Worse, No change or Not enough data yet (how it works). It's built for sites that can't run A/B tests to significance.

Pricing. Starter $99 a month, Growth $249 a month, Scale $499 a month, and Enterprise is custom, month to month (pricing). Every plan starts with a free first week, and you see your first report before any charge. Any charge can be refunded within 14 days, no reason needed (refunds).

Keep in mind. It's a paid product, and it works alongside GA4 and Clarity rather than replacing them. It doesn't run A/B tests.

Who it's for. Marketing sites, online stores and SaaS sites that have traffic but not enough conversions, and want to know what to change first.

Want a quick look before installing anything? The free page scan works from a URL alone, takes about a minute, and needs no install. It's a prediction from our attention model, not data from your real visitors, and the full findings arrive by email.

How to pick

  1. No budget: GA4 plus Clarity. Watch recordings of visitors who reached your main page and left.
  2. You want surveys too: Contentsquare's free plan, or Growth for longer history and AI summaries.
  3. You have plenty of traffic and a list of ideas: add VWO or Optimizely and test them.
  4. You have traffic, few conversions, and no time to watch recordings: add Cortality for a ranked list of fixes and a re-measure on each one. Start your free week.

Questions

What are the best AI tools for conversion rate optimization?

For most small and mid-size sites: Google Analytics 4 (free) to see which pages and sources lose visitors, Microsoft Clarity (free) for recordings and heatmaps with Copilot summaries, and Contentsquare, Hotjar's new home, if you also want surveys and longer history. Add VWO or Optimizely only when you have enough traffic to A/B test. If you need to know what to change first, Cortality measures how real visitors use each element and gives you a ranked Fix List.

Is there a free AI tool for CRO?

Yes. Microsoft Clarity is free forever with no traffic limits and includes Copilot heatmap insights and chat. Contentsquare has a free plan of up to 200k sessions a month. Google Analytics 4 is free. Microsoft says Clarity's Copilot takeaways shouldn't be treated as expert recommendations, so check them against the data.

Is Hotjar still the best CRO tool?

Hotjar is now part of Contentsquare, and new users can no longer create a Hotjar account. They sign up for Contentsquare instead, which has a free plan and a Growth plan at $49 a month paid monthly or $39 a month paid yearly (checked November 2, 2026).

Do I need an A/B testing tool for CRO?

Only if you have enough traffic for tests to reach a clear result. VWO and Optimizely are strong testing platforms, and both price through a demo or quote. Low-traffic sites usually get more from finding the biggest problem on the page, fixing it, and comparing before and after.

Can AI tell me what to change on my page?

Some tools try. Clarity and Contentsquare summarize recordings and heatmaps with AI, and you still decide what to change. Cortality gives each finding as what was measured, why it costs you, the exact change, and a re-measure that shows whether it worked.

How much does Cortality cost?

Plans are $99, $249 or $499 a month, and Enterprise is custom. Every plan starts with a free first week, you see your first report before any charge, and any charge can be refunded within 14 days.
